Sonu Sood says 'A farmer's status is not less than parents' amid ongoing protest

Sonu Sood took to his Twitter handle to voice support for farmers' protest. "A farmers' status is no less than a parent," Sood wrote.

Sonu Sood took to his Twitter handle to voice support for farmers' protest. Sood, in favour of farmers fighting against new farm laws, wrote, "A farmer's status is less than a parent." [sic]

Earlier he h written, "Farmer is India." [sic] Several Bollywood stars, including Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Divya Dutta and Neha Sharma, have come out in support of farmers. Agitating farmers on Friday anunced a ‘Bharat Bandh’ on December 8.

5th round of talks

dressing media on Saturday, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar anunced that next round of talks with farmer leers will be held on December 9. Asserting that Minimum Support Price system will continue, he expressed that Centre's willingness to dress concerns regarding this. 

Ahe of talks, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and or ministers met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in day. During meeting, Centre was represented by Narendra Singh Tomar and Union Food and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal. At outset, government gave a point-wise written reply to farmer leers. Maintaining that y h eugh ration to last for a year of protests, y argued against allowing corporate farming.

According to m, government and t farmers would benefit from three agrarian laws. During deliberations, Tomar requested farmers' representatives to ask senior citizens and children among protesters to go home. While some farmers have shifted to designated Nirankari Samagam ground in Burari, many ors are still protesting at Delhi borders.

What are agrarian laws? 

Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020 aims at freeing  farmers from constraints of state Agriculture Produce Market Committees whereby y would be able to sell ir produce anywhere. Meanwhile,  Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 protects and empowers farmers to eng with processors, wholesalers, large retailers, exporters for farm services. This entails provision of contract farming.

On or hand,  Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 specifies that supply of foodstuffs including cereals, pulses, potato, edible oilseeds, and oils shall be regulated only under exceptional circumstances. Concerns have been raised about future of APMCs and MSP. Meanwhile, farmers' unions are expected to go ahe with  Bharat Bandh on December 8.
