The Shraddha Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao starrer Stree 2 scripted history at the Bollywood box office. The horror-comedy movie is the sequel to the 2018 film and is directed by Amar Kaushik. Ever since its release on August 15, the movie has been drawing audiences to houseful theatres. But, actor Ananth Mahadevan has a different opinion in regards to the horror-comedy.

Ananth Mahadevan: Kya sochke aapne yeh film likhi?

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Ananth Mahadevan criticised Stree 2’s writing. He expressed that movies these days have become juvenile. He said, Mera sawaal hai,Kyu? Kya sochke aapne ye film likhi. Banana to dusri baat hai."

However, Ananth Mahadevan did praise Rajkummar Rao. He said, “It’s got one of the finest actors of today- Rajkummar Rao. I respect him a lot. Shraddha was fine. She provided the glamour content and it was there. She had that mystique about her and that was fine. See, you can’t blame the actors in the film”. He then later questioned the makers of the film and asked, fir yeh film jo hai iso kya sochkar, kya samjhkar logon ne banana?

Ananth also said that, “Is this what the audience wants? Ye sochna bhot zaruri hai. Because this is what is plaguing Indian cinema. Why is Indian cinema not on the world level? I love horror films. Exorcist, Omen, aisi filmein banaiye na. Intelligent films kyu nahi banti hai? Horror films ka matlab ye kyu hai ki hum bachkaani harkatein karke logon ko daraane ya hasaane ki koshish kare".

Who is Ananth Mahadevan?

Ananth Mahadevan is an actor, screenwriter and film director who worked in Hindi and Marathi as well as Tamil films and television shows. His notable performances actor include Khandaan, Isabella, Nagin Aur Lootere, Vishwaroopam 2, 8 x 10 Tasveer, 2.0 and Scam 1992 among others.

Ananth has directed several films including Dil Vil Pyaar Veer, Dil Maange More, Anamika: The Untold Story, The Xposé, Aksar 2 and Aata Vel Zaali among others. Ananth along with Sanjay Pawar received the National Award (2010) for the Best Screenplay and Dialogues for the successful Marathi movie Mee Sindhutai Sapkal. The film also fetched him the special jury award at the National Film awards 2010.
