Tamannaah Opines South Films Are More 'Rooted' Than Bollywood: Their Content Is Translating Globally
After Allu Arjun, Tamannaah Bhatia has said South movies are more "culturally rooted" than Bollywood, and this is why they perform well.
Tamannaah Bhatia started her journey in the film industry with Hindi films but gained fame when she starred in South Indian films. On tasting the success, the actress continued working in the Tamil and Telugu film industries. However, she kept doing a few Hindi movies like Himmatwala and Humshakals. In a recent interview, the actress shared her opinion on the South Cinema vs Bollywood debate. She opined that South chose to tell more "rooted" stories and this is the reason they performed well at the box office.
'South films talk more in terms of their geographical locations'
The actress appeared in Raj Shamani's podcast and candidly spoke about her career. During the conversation, she was asked to share her opinion on what makes Hindi movies different from the South. To this, the actress replied the difference she notices is that South movies are themed around their geographical locations. "I think their content is translating globally primarily because they are trying to tell rooted stories," she continued.
Elaborating on her opinion, Tamannaah added that South films don't work from the standpoint of choosing segments in people. They rather than focus on basic human emotions such as "related to mother, father… revenge on brother, sister… stories that tend to tell many more stories about basic human emotions through different storytelling formats".
"They are also very much concerned about putting their perspective the way it is. They are not trying to service different kinds of people. They are trying to only tell what they know fully. That has really worked, I think, for the South," she explained.
Whereas in Bollywood, she has noticed that many times the films are made for the sake of "everybody's consumption".
This is not the first time, an actor has pointed out that South movies are "rooted" in comparison to Bollywood films.
When Allu Arjun pointed out what's wrong with Bollywood
Earlier in an interview with Galatta Plus, director Nikkhil Advani recalled his conversation with Allu Arjun , who highlighted the core problem of Bollywood films. The Pushpa actor had opined that South films take core emotion and make a film out of it. "Like water irrigation, let’s make a film about it and now they have packaged that with incredible action, incredible moments of heroism," said Nikkhil.
Coming back to Tamannaah Bhatia, the actress is currently basking in the success of her song Aaj Ki Raat from the movie Stree 2. The actress is being praised for her moves in the hit track. Meanwhile, she is also busy with the filming of her next movie Odela 2, which serves as a sequel to Odela Railway Station. The sequel centres on the fictional village of the same name and portrays how Odela Mallanna Swamy protects his village from evil forces. The makers are yet to announce the release date.
