“First, it’s important to te that diction is a chronic disease characterized by drug seeking and use that is compulsive or difficult to control, despite harmful consequences. Initial decision to take drugs is voluntary for most people, but repeated drug use can le to brain changes that challenge an dicted person’s self-control and interfere with ir ability to resist intense urges to take drugs. se brain changes can be persistent, which is why drug diction is considered a “Relapsing” Disease- People in recovery from drug use disorders are at increased risk for returning to drug use even after years of t using drugs.”

All of us should have compassion for this disease and for people and families it effects.”

“When it comes to my far’s past drug use, he will always be in recovery. It’s a disease he has to fight Every. Single. Day. Even though he is t using anymore. I’m proud of my far for mitting he h a problem, taking initiative, and seeking help for it. re is thing, t a d**n thing, to be ashamed about.”
