Tumbbad Re-release BO Collection Day 1: Sohum Shah Starrer Beats Kareena's The Buckingham Murders

Sohum Shah starrer Tumbbad is enjoying traction in the theatres as the movie has minted ₹63.5 lakhs more than what it earned originally.

Sohum Shah starrer Tumbbad re-released in the theatres on Friday, September 13. helmed by Rahi Anil Barve, the movie became a cult classic, over the years owing to its unique plot and direction. The movie follows the story of Vinayak Rao's search for a hidden 20th-century treasure in the Indian village of Tumbbad, Maharashtra . Interestingly, the movie has beaten Kareena Kapoor's The Buckingham Murders at the domestic box office.

Sohum Shah starrer Tumbbad minted ₹1.50 crore at the box office in India, which is more than what it originally earned on the opening day in 2018. the movie minted only ₹65 lakh on the first day of its release. At the end of its nine-week theatrical run, Tumbbad earned a total of ₹15.4 crore at the box office in 2018. It was after the OTT release, that the movie gained traction and was declared a classic.

The movie has now registered an encouraging start, despite the release of Kareena's new film The Buckingham Murders.

The mystery crime thriller minted ₹1.15 crore at the box office which is the lowest opening of Kareena's career, per Sacnilk.  hThe Buckingham Murdersad an overall 9.99 per cent Hindi occupancy on Friday with the maximum reported in Chennai (56 per cent). Owing to positive word of mouth the movie is expected to witness a spike in the collection over the weekend.

Makers confirm Tumbbad 2

Hastar is all set to return as the makers, on Friday, announced the sequel via re-release of  Tumbbad. It was announced towards the end of the movie. An X user shared a photo of the screen that reads, "Tumbbad 2 coming soon".

The sequel is reportedly going to be "totally different" from the first instalment. It will follow the concept of immortality with the character of Pandurang, the son of Vinayak Rao (played by Mohammad Samad).
