In its second innings at the domestic box office, actor-producer Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad has raked in ₹13.05 crore nett in four days. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and produced by the actor under his banner Sohum Shah Films, the atmospheric horror drama received critical acclaim when it released in theatres on October 12, 2018. In an Interview, Sohum had shared that the movie did not get what it deserved and that its re-release would turn it around for the team. It seems like Sohum was right.
Breakdown of week one collection of Tumbbad on its re-release
According to Taran Adarsh, Tummbad collections have now equalled its business during its initial lifetime run in 2018. The movie minted ₹1.65 crore on Friday, ₹2.65 crore on Saturday, ₹3.04 crore on Sunday, ₹1.69 crore on Monday, ₹1.66 crore on Tuesday, ₹1.42 crore on Wednesday and 1.33 crore on Thursday, taking its 1st week collection to ₹13.44 crore.
This is on par with its initial collection of ₹13.48 crore. Taran Adarsh noted that the horror film has received exceptional response at the box office from fans and is poised for a good second weekend.
National Cinema Day to boost collections further
Tumbbad collections will be further boosted by National Cinema Day on September 20. Cinema halls, including PVR INOX, Cinepolis, Miraj, Movie Time and Delite, have teamed up to show films in over 4,000 participating screens for the event and movie tickets have been fixed at ₹99.
In an interview with PTI, actor-producer Sohum Shah said Tumbbad didn’t reach viewers “properly” when it was released in 2018. “Whenever I post something on Instagram or Twitter, there are only two kinds of comments — ‘When are you making ‘Tumbbad 2?’ or ‘Why are you not re-releasing the movie in theatres?’ People want to see ‘Tumbbad’ on the big screen. They have given me a lot of love and I want to give them another opportunity to watch this movie in theatres,” he had said.
Last week, Shah also announced a sequel to Tumbbad, a long-standing demand from the film’s loyal fanbase.
