Varun Dhawan is the son of one of the most popular directors, David Dhawan. Nephew of actor Anil Dhawan and Rashmi Dhawan, Varun is the second cousin of Punit Malhotra. He is the younger brother of Rohit Dhawan, who is a film director in Bollywood. Actor Siddharth Dhawan is his half-brother. The actor attended Bombay Scottish School and completed his graduation from Nottingham Trent University.

From his family tree, it is pretty evident that Varun Dhawan has a filmy background. The star has grown up with Bollywood all around him. That is how he is childhood friends with actor Shraddha Kapoor. The duo met when Shakti Kapoor and David Dhawan were shooting for a film together. The star also assisted Karan Johar during My Name is Khan and that is when the director spotted him and chose to cast him in his film.
