War didn’t face any wars at the box office despite many films being at the theaters at the moment as it is enjoying an outstanding run. The Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff-starrer has entered a league of biggies in terms of the performance at the ticket windows as it hit the Rs 200-crore mark in merely seven days. The action film is being termed as a ‘monstrous hit’ by trade experts as it joined an elite list that includes Baahubali, Sanju, Dangal. Moreover, War has also beaten some big names like Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan’s films to emerge as the third-highest grosser of this year already.
After a glorious extended weekend that took the collections to Rs 166.25 crore, War didn’t lose steam. Even on a working day, Monday, it earned over Rs 20 crore. And with Dussehra on Tuesday, the movie had a big advantage again after Gandhi Jayanti as it minted Rs 27.75 crore. With the collections, the movie has now entered the Rs 200-crore club, with the total going up to Rs 216.65 crore including close to Rs 10 crore from Tamil and Telugu versions. According to Taran Adarsh, who tweeted the figures, War is a ‘monstrous hit’.
Joins elite, beats biggies
The movie also joined other ventures like Sanju and Sultan to earn Rs 200 crore in seven days, while beating blockbusters like Dangal and PK which had achieved the feat in eight days and Bajrangi Bhaijaan in nine days.
Adarsh wrote, “#War hits double century... Collects ₹ 20 cr+ every single day since release, which speaks of its incredible trending... Collects a massive number on Day 7 [Tue] due to #Dussehra... Emerges third highest grossing film of 2019, surpassing *lifetime biz* of #Bharat.”
Not just Bharat, War also beat the lifetime collections of Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal to emerge as the third-highest grosser.
The next target for War would be Uri: The Surgical strike, which earned close to Rs 250 crore and then topple the highest-grosser till now, Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh which stands at over Rs 285 crore.
Despite mixed reviews from critics, War showed audience love is all that matters as it breaks records galore. War has been directed by Siddharth Anand and also stars Vaani Kapoor.
