The makers of ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ have created a masterstroke to strike at the rampant piracy that every film falls victim to. To discourage viewers who download the movie illegally through torrent websites, the team has ‘planted the full movie’ themselves, albeit it’s not the same one that’s playing in the theatres. In this one, instead, we see Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam and other members of the cast delivering an anti-piracy message, same as the tagline of the movie, ‘Yeh naya hindustan hai, yeh ghar me ghusega bhi aur marega bhi.’

The Internet has been abuzz with reactions from several of those who downloaded the file of a mammoth 3.8 GB. After the painstaking efforts and a massive cut of the allotted usage for many who are limited Internet plans, what they get is a video that starts off exactly like a pirated movie. You hear the voices of the audiences in the theatre and the camera is shaking as the censor board certificate, acknowledgements and names of partners show up on screen.

The visual of ‘Location: Undisclosed’ and 'Time: 36 hours before the surgical strike’, make you gear up with a lot of expectations, after all the movie has been receiving outstanding reviews.

We see visuals of the ‘prime target’ and their ‘firepower’, as Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam and other characters discuss how they’d enter and execute the surgical strike at 0400 hours without ‘their Army’ getting an inkling of it. All good till now and here’s when the twist hits you.

Suddenly, Vicky turns to the camera and says that just like the Army, they had also entered the viewers’ screen without their knowledge. Yami says that when our Army could enter into another country’s territory and attack them, they could do so against torrents too.

Vicky asks the viewer to watch the movie with pride but in theatres, not secretly via illegal downloads. They concluded by saying that this is 'new India' that will enter into your territory as well as strike, the tagline of the movie. A masterstroke, indeed!

'Uri: The Surgical Strike', meanwhile, has taken a brilliant start at the box office, earning just over Rs 55 crore in five days. The movie is directed by Aditya Dhar and Ronnie Screwvala and is based on the true incident of Indian Army's attacks in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) against suspected militants following the attacks in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri town in September 2016.
