When Kiran Rao Denied Being The Other Woman In Aamir Khan's Marriage With Reena Dutta

Kiran Rao's film Laapataa Ladies has been chosen as India's official entry for the 97th Academy Awards. This selection is a dream come true for the Dhobi Ghat director, who had previously expressed her desire to win an Oscar. As Aamir's ex-wife, she faced many rumours about her personal and professional life in the past. Following this achievement, an old interview has resurfaced, where Kiran Rao denied having an affair with a PK actor during the making of Lagaan.

When Kiran Rao clarified about affair rumours with Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao met on the set of Lagaan in 2001 and later married in 2005, following Aamir's 2002 divorce from his ex-wife, Reena Dutta. When the ex-couple tied the knot, rumours circulated that Kiran was responsible for his previous divorce, but during a promotional event for Laapataa Ladies in March 2024, Kiran clarified the timeline. She explained that their relationship began in 2004 while she was assisting Ashutosh Gowariker on Swades, and Aamir Khan was involved in Mangal Pandey.

Kiran also emphasised that they did not connect during Lagaan. She revealed that they reconnected after filming some commercials for Coke, years after Lagaan. At that time, Kiran was seeing someone else, and she barely interacted with Aamir during the shoot. Their relationship began in 2004, but many mistakenly believed it had started during the Lagaan shoot, causing the divorce, which was not true.

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao went for counselling after marriage

Kiran Rao also revealed that she and Aamir attended the couple's counselling after their marriage. She described that marrying someone with a past can introduce baggage that impacts the new unions.

Kiran and Aamir wed in 2005 and announced their separation in 2021. They actively co-parent their son, Azad, who was born in December 2011.
