Who Is Sharda Sinha? 72-Year-Old Padma Bhushan Bihari Folk Singer Who Is Battling Blood Cancer

Sharda Sinha is a popular folk singer, who was awarded Padma Shri (1991) and Padma Bhushan (2018) owing to her contributions to the music industry.

Sharda Sinha has been suffering from multiple myeloma since 2017. Recently, her health deteriorated owing to which she has been put on oxygen support, according to an AIIMS official. She is one of the popular folk singers, who has also sung in several hit Bollywood movies.

Who is Sharda Sinha?

The 72-year-old singer hails from Bihar and predominantly sings in Maithili and Bhojpuri, language. She started her career by singing folk songs and later spread her wings in the Hindi cinema. She performed at several prominent events, including when She performed when the Prime Minister of Mauritius Navin Ramgoolam came to Bihar . She regularly performs during Chhath Puja festivities.

Sinha also sang the song Kahe Toh Se Sajna in the hit Bollywood movie Maine Pyar Kia (1989), Taar Bijli from the film Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2 and Kaun Si Nagaria from the Bollywood film Chaarfutiya Chhokare.

Honouring her contributions to music, in 1991, she was awarded the Padma Shri. In 2018, she was awarded Padma Vibhushan.

About Sharda Sinha's family

She was married to Braj Kishore Sinha, who died a few weeks ago following a brain haemorrhage due to a fall. She has two children, Anshuman and Vandana.

Sharda Sinha's health update

Several reports claimed Sharda Sinha was put on a ventilator after her health deteriorated. However, her son Anshuman Sinha called them "fake" and requested that people not spread negativity. He took to Sharda Sinha's Instagram handle and shared a video informing the followers that the veteran singer is critical but not on a ventilator. He shared that the singer is conscious and responding, but not everyone is allowed to meet the singer.

According to Dr Rima Dada, professor in charge of the AIIMS media cell, the singer is hemodynamically stable but under constant monitoring.
