Sonam Kapoor-starrer The Zoya Factor hit the theatres on September 20, 2019. The film is directed by Abhishek Sharma and jointly produced by Pooja Shetty Deora and Arti Shetty. The film was much anticipated as it is an adaptation of the 2008 best-selling novel with the same name. The movie focuses on the life of a young lady who is considered to be a lucky charm for the Indian cricket team.

The film also stars Dulquer Salmaan and Sanjay Kapoor in significant roles. Even though the movie was expected to do well by film analysts, it did not make money at the box office. Here are the three possible reasons that could have led to the failure of the film.

Why The Zoya Factor crashed at the box office

According to most film critics, the main reason for the failure of The Zoya Factor was the clash of three films at the box office. It released alongside films like Prassthanam and Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas. This seemed to have divided the attention of the audience to a great extent. Additionally, there were films that had released earlier in the month and were consistently doing well such as Chhichhore, Dream Girl and Section 375. These were critically acclaimed and hence had better ratings.

Another factor that possibly affected the outcome of The Zoya Factor was audience reviews. In the age of social media, word spreads quickly about every film. Most of the reviews during the first few days of the film were not in its favour.

Higher expectations from book adaptations?

Many critics also feel that people who had read the book The Zoya Factor had extremely high expectations from the film. Hence it was constantly being compared with the book. This makes execution difficult for the filmmakers. A few films like Kai Po Che, which was an adaption of Chetan Bhagat’s 3 Mistakes of My Life, did well at the box office. On the other hand, the Bollywood adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s One Night At The Call Centre, did not do well according to Box Office India.
