New Delhi: Rohit Bal, the renowned Indian fashion designer known as the master of fabric and fantasy, died at the age of 63 after a year-long battle with a heart ailment. The news of Bal’s demise was confirmed by FDCI chairman Sunil Sethi on Friday. In a heartfelt post on Instagram, the Fashion Design Council of India celebrated the legacy of the fashion icon Rohit Bal, lovingly known as Gudda.
"We mourn the passing of Legendary designer Rohit Bal. He was a founding member of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). Known for his unique blend of traditional patterns with modern sensibilities, Bal's work redefined Indian fashion, and inspired generations. His legacy of artistry, and innovation along with forward thinking will live on in the fashion world. Rest in peace GUDDA," the council wrote.

Bal was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.
Despite his health challenges, Bal made a remarkable return to the fashion scene earlier this year, showcasing his last collection at Lakme India Fashion Week just last month. During the show, he stumbled on the ramp, causing concern among his fans and the fashion community regarding his well-being. His passing leaves a big void in the industry, where he was revered not only for his stunning designs but also for his influence on the world of couture.

Born in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, in 1961, Bal’s passion for fashion blossomed early in life. He began his career in the late 1980s, quickly rising to prominence for his ability to blend traditional Indian textiles with contemporary silhouettes. His signature aesthetic, characterized by intricate embroideries and bold colours, earned him a dedicated following among fashion enthusiasts and celebrities alike.
