K-pop juggernauts BTS and BLACKPINK have once again set newer records. This time with BTS' Lights and BLACKPINK’s Kill This Love have me it into certified hits of Japan. two groups albums are a hit with Japanese listeners and achieved RIAJ certification which h only a few Korean artists in list.

BTS’ 'Lights' and BLACKPINK’s 'Kill This Love' set new records 

Early in 2020, Recording Industry Association of Japan or RIAJ has initiated a certification system that will trace online streaming of all genres in Japanese market. This is an dition to pre-existing system which marks shipments and digital sales across Japanese market. As per new certification system,  songs will be given title of silver RIAJ once songs hit 30 million streams, followed by golden RIAJ if songs cross 50 million streams online and platinum RIAJ if songs hit 100 million in online streams.

In recent RIAJ certification, BTS’ Lights, which is a Japanese original and BLACKPINK’s 2019 hit Kill This Love achieved silver RIAJ certifications. two songs are a 2019 release. This comes after Korean acts mand to cross 30 million mark. This is t first time that BTS has received a RIAJ but fourth time. group has crossed silver certification for DNA, Boy With Luv and ir cult hit Fake Love. group has, at all four times, crossed  30 million mark within months of its release in Japan alone. Bangtan Sonyeondan or BTS is only Korean male artist to achieve this feat. BTS’ Lights is only original Japanese album by band to receive certification as well, as per reports.

On or hand, BLACKPINK’s Kill This Love is group's maiden certification under RIAJ. Apart from this BLACKPINK recently released ir single How You Like That which reportedly mand to make over five Guinness World Records in terms of views. BLACKPINK is only Korean girl group with so many records under ir name. BTS, on or hand, released ir fourth Japanese album Map of Soul: 7 Journey with several songs sung and co-written by group.
