'Bihar Kokila' Sharda Sinha On Ventilator Support, Son Appeals Fans To Pray For Her On Chhath Puja

Sharda Sinha, also known as Bihar Kokila, is renowned for her Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Magahi songs, especially for Chhath Puja. Recently, her health has declined as she was reportedly in shock following the recent passing of her husband, Brij Kishore Sinha. Sharda has been under treatment at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi for several days. Her son, Anshuman now shared an update on her condition through a live on her official YouTube channel.
Sharda Sinha's health update
Veteran folk singer Sharda Sinha has been admitted to AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi. The Padma Bhushan awardee is currently critical and on ventilator support. In a video shared by Sharda Sinha’s son on his YouTube channel, he spoke about his mother's critical condition. He further appealed to Chhathi Maiya (Goddess Chhathi) for prayers for her recovery. Sharda Sinha, known for singing songs during the Chhath festival, was admitted to AIIMS Delhi on October 25 due to illness. Anshuman shared the news of her hospitalisation on social media on October 27. Sharda Sinha has been battling multiple myeloma since 2017 which has worsened the condition since her husband's sudden demise.

While she undergoes treatment, Anshuman has released her new song, Dukhwa Mitayin Chhathi Maiya, in time for Chhath 2024. Many social media users have expressed their wishes for her swift recovery.
Who is Sharda Sinha?
Sharda Sinha began her career singing folk songs and later expanded into Hindi cinema. She has performed at many events, including one attended by the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navin Ramgoolam, in Bihar . She also regularly performs during Chhath Puja celebrations.

Sinha sang Kahe Toh Se Sajna in the popular Bollywood film Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), Taar Bijli in Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2, and Kaun Si Nagaria in Chaarfutiya Chhokare.
In recognition of her musical contributions, she was awarded the Padma Shri in 1991 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2018.
