Director M B Padmakumar says people 'threw stones' at him when he made a film on homosexual love

Filmmaker M B Pmakumar has spoken out about difficult experience he h while making a film about homosexual love, while also praising new Malayalam film Kaathal- Core, which deals with same subject. In 2014, Pmakumar directed My Life Partner' a film about a gay relationship. He revealed that not only were aters unwilling to show film because it lacked any superstars, but many locations where it was shown removed it and replaced it with anor film titled Garbha Shriman.

What did Pmakumar say?

As per Onmanorama, Pmakuma was sdened by fact that no one came to watch his film based on homosexual relationship. However, he lauded Kaathal movie and said "re is a scene in movie 'Kaathal' where Mammootty's character washes his face while looking at mirror. He does this not once but several times. How beautifully he has portrayed that scene! This is proof of how deeply he understood and studied character. He has conceived and acted out scene to reinforce idea that labels imposed by society on people will not change, no matter how many times y try to wash it away."

He ded, "Many directors and filmmakers are still struggling to bring out se stories into mainstream but have not been as lucky as Jeo Baby. ‘My Life Partner’ narrated homosexual love differently. It was a mirror held against society. story and characters of film are still alive. I wrote script for film after a lot of research. mental pressure I experienced in 2014 was extreme. Society threw stones at me, accusing me of making a film that was based on homosexual love. When my children went to school, y were told in plain Malayalam that ir far was a director of a sleazy movie. It hurt m very much. When my film got released, I tried to approach many superstars, asking m to watch film and comment on it. However, many of m turned ir back on me."

Pmakumar reveals approaching top actors for his film

During same interaction, Pmakumar said that he h approached several actors with script and requested m to give ir dates for shooting of film. He furr revealed his experience of visiting Lulu mall after his film's release. "When movie was released, I went to atre in Lulu Mall, hoping that someone would open door and come in to watch film. But not many people came to see movie," he said.
