Liam Payne, 31, was found dead after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16. The singer fell into the Casa Sur Hotel courtyard in the Palermo neighbourhood of Argentina’s capital. He suffered serious injuries and died on the spot, the statement said, per The Associated Press. The news of his death came just two days after his ex-fiancee Maya Henry issued a cease-and-desist order to the singer accusing him of persistently contacting her.

The 23-year-old model's representative addressed the news of Liam's death and shared that she is currently in "shock". The representative told the Daily Mail, "Right now, she is obviously in shock."

The couple started dating in 2019 and got engaged the next year. However, they called off their engagement in June 2021 only to reunite and get engaged again later that year. It was in May 2022, they ended their engagement for the second time. At the time of Payne's death, he was reportedly daring a model, Kate Cassidy.

Two days before Payne's death, Henry had asked her lawyers to issue a cease-and-desist order for persistently contacting her. On October 6, Maya posted a video on TikTok claiming her ex (she didn't take Liam's name but connected to "One Direction fans") and continues to send her messages.

“It’s always from different phone numbers, so I never know when or where it’s coming from. He even emails me. He doesn’t just reach out to me; he also bombards my mom’s phone. Is that normal behaviour?” She further alleged that his ex has "weaponised" One Direction fans against her, "He claims that he ‘preys on One Direction fans because they will always be loyal to him and won’t tell on him.’”
