Rohit Bal Health Battle: In 2023, the ace Indian designer had a health scare that sent the fashion industry into panic. His passing away comes as a big blow to the fashion scene in the country. Just 2 weeks after his comeback show, the designer breathed his last on November 1 at the age of 63.

Rohit Bal put on life support in 2023, and suffered a massive heart attack in 2010

On November 23, 2023, Rohit Bal was rushed to a hospital in Gurgaon. The designer was admitted to Medanta Hospital after multiple health-related ailments. He complained of complications relating to dilated cardiomyopathy, uncontrolled diabetes and acute kidney failure. At the time, his condition was labelled as ‘critical’.
 

He was put on ventilator support at the time but recovered well and woke up 10 days later on December 3. However, his history of poor cardiac health has not been new. Rohit Bal had to undergo an emergency angioplasty in February 2010 as well. He had a heart attack then as well.

Rohit Bal's iconic comeback in 2024

Rohit Bal presented his latest collection at the Lakme Fashion Week X FDCI 2024 grand finale, which marked the renowned fashion designer's runway comeback 10 months after his health scare. Actor and Lakme muse Ananya Panday turned showstopper for Bal, who showcased the clothing line "Kaaynaat: A Bloom in the Universe" on October 14. The collection featured flowing fabrics, intricate embroidery, and vibrant hues that mirrored the mysteries of the universe. Delicate floral motifs symbolised the bloom of life, with each ensemble narrating the journey of a flower from bud to full bloom under a starlit sky. Bal described "Kaaynaat" as a journey through the wonders of nature, celebrating the bloom of life and beauty.
 

Motifs of red roses and deer featured prominently in her ensemble. The collection is billed as "a poetic ode to nature, beauty, and the art of transformation". "With roses as the centrepiece, each garment unveils a story woven through intricate embroidery and masterful craftsmanship, capturing the delicate balance of time and metamorphosis. "This grand finale is a stunning celebration of nature's elegance, where fashion blooms into art, leaving an indelible mark on the world of haute couture," read a post on the official LFW Instagram page.

Rohit Bal passes ay at 63 due to cardiac arrest 

Rohit Bal, one of India’s most celebrated fashion designers, died on Friday at a south Delhi hospital following a heart attack, Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) president Sunil Sethi said. He was 63. Bal had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Gurugram for cardiac issues in December last year. In October this year, he presented his collection at the Lakme Fashion Week X FDCI 2024 grand finale. "It's true that he has passed away. He had a cardiac arrest... heart failure. Rohit was a legend, we are completely shaken right now. We are trying to work out details for the cremation tomorrow," Sethi told PTI.

He had been admitted to Aashlok Hospital in Safdarjung Enclave and was being treated by Dr Alok Chopra, Sethi said. Doctors tried their best for two hours to revive him, a heartbroken Sethi added.
