Sharda Sinha Dies At 72: The popular Bihari folk singer died on Tuesday night while undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi. She was 72. Condolence messages poured in from across the country following the death of popular folk singer Sharda Sinha, who was fondly called ' Bihar Kokila' by millions of her admirers.

Bihar governor, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister pay tribute to Sharda Sinha 

Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, in his condolence message, wrote on X, "The news of the demise of Bihar's famous folk singer Padma Bhushan Sharda Sinha ji is extremely sad. Apart from Hindi, she gave a distinct identity to Maithili, Bhojpuri, Bajjika and Magahi music with her melodious voice. She also sang many songs in Hindi films." "The Chhath songs sung by her gained a lot of fame. The demise of Bihar Kokila has caused an irreparable loss in the field of culture, especially music. Deep condolences to her family and fans. May God give her a place in his feet. Om Shanti," he said.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the demise of the Padma Shri as well as Padma Bhushan recipient was heart-breaking. "She was an icon... her demise has created a void, which will remain forever for all of us. I pray that the almighty gives her family the strength to withstand this tragic moment. May her soul rest in peace," he said.
 

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, in his condolence message, said, "The demise of Bihar's 'Swar Kokila' Sharda Sinha ji is an irreparable loss for the folk culture and heritage of Bihar. The great festival of Chhath seems incomplete without the songs sung by them." "Entire Bihar stands with her family in this hour of grief. We pray to God to give place to the virtuous soul in his feet and give strength to his family and relatives to bear the grief," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi , President Murmu, cabinet ministers - Amit Shah , and Rajnath Singh condole the loss of Sharda Sinha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was monitoring her condition with the doctors and her family constantly, led the tributes to the artiste in a post on X. "Deeply saddened by the demise of renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha ji. Her Maithili and Bhojpuri folk songs have been popular for many decades. "The echo of her melodious songs connected with the great festival of Chhat will always be there. Her demise is an irreparable loss to the music world. My condolences with her family and fans in this hour of grief. Om Shanti," the PM posted.

Home Minister Amit Shah said Sinha gave new heights to Indian music with her melodious voice for more than five decades. "Sharda Sinha ji, famous as Bihar Kokila, made Maithili and Bhojpuri folk songs popular among the masses and kept mesmerizing the film world as a playback singer. The folk traditions of Purvanchal seem incomplete without her voice. On this great festival of Chhath, her voice will definitely make the devotees even more emotional. "My condolences are with her family in this hour of grief. May Chhathi Maiya grant a place to the departed soul at your feet. Om Shanti," he posted on X.

UP CM Yogi Aditynath, Delhi CM Atishi pen a note for Sharda Sinha after her passing 

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Aditynath said, “Humble tribute to her! Through her excellent traditional singing, she served many folk languages including Maithili, Bhojpuri and folk culture and brought her respect on the national stage. “I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed soul in his feet and provide strength to her bereaved family and fans to bear this immense loss. Om peace!” he added.

Chief Minister of Delhi Atishi wrote on X in Hindi, "The news of the demise of famous folk singer Sharda Sinha ji is very sad. She preserved our cultural heritage with her music. May God give her a place in his feet."


Sharda Sinha, who pioneered and popularised the rich folk traditions of Bihar beyond its borders, was undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Delhi for multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer.
