Makers release trailer for Chandramukhi 2
The trailer of Chandramukhi opens with an introduction of Vettaiyan Raja, interlaced with high-paced shots of the wooden doors which hold back evil. Kangana as Chandramukhi does not appear till much later in the trailer which takes some time setting up a contemporary context of the familiar story. Kangana commands attention in the second half of the two-minute, fifty-one second trailer, eventhough the makers try to create suspense by allowing audiences minimal glimpses of the leading lady.

Chandramukhi 2 is the sequel to 2005 film Chandramukhi which itself is a remake of Kannada film Apthamitra which released in 2004. Apthamitra in turn was a remake of 1993 Malayalam film Manichitrathazu. The role of Chandramukhi itself has also been reprised by multiple eminent names. Jyothika had played the titular role in the 2005 film, notably starring opposite Rajinikanth. While Apthamitra starred Soundarya in the same role, Manichitrathazu saw Shobhana lead the film. An inspired take on the story and character was featured in Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) with Vidya Balan playing the role.
