Fawad Khan-Mahira Khan starrer The Legend Of Maula Jatt is the first Pakistani film to release in India after 2011's Bol, starring Atif Aslam.
Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan starrer The Legend of Maula Jatt was widely hailed by the critics and audience. Except for India, the movie was released across the globe in October 2022. It opened at Rs 51 crore globally, the biggest Pakistani film opening of all time. Now, two years later, the movie has found its way to India. It is the first Pakistani film to release in Indian theatres after 2011's Bol, starring Humaima Malick, Mahira Khan and Atif Aslam.
The Legend of Maula Jatt is releasing on THIS date in India
The official Instagram handle of The Legend of Maula Jatt shared the poster of the movie and wrote, "Two years on, The Legend of Maula Jatt is still unstoppable! Witness the epic saga on the big screen in India from 2nd October 2024." The film was earlier slated to arrive in Indian theatres in December 2022 but its release was postponed.
Soon after he dropped the post, Indian fans flooded the comment section. A user wrote, "We've waited far too long! Finally." Another predicted, "India me bhut chalegi mai khud dekhonga". Others simply wrote, "Amazing", "Can't wait" and "Excited".
Mahira Khan also took to her Instagram Stories to share the news with her Indian fans. She re-shared the poster and wrote, "Let's Go!"
According to the poster, the film is a Zee Studios release in collaboration with Zindagi, which also brought Fawad back to audiences in India with its latest show Barzakh.
What else do we know about The Legend Of Maula Jatt?
The Fawad starrer, which became a massive hit in Pakistan , is a remake of the 1979 cult classic Maula Jatt. It is ranked as Pakistan’s highest-earning movie raking in Rs 400 crore globally. Besides Fawad and Mahira the film also features Hamza Abbasi in a pivotal role.
"India is a massive market for films and we are confident that The Legend Of Maula Jatt will be appreciated by Indian audiences,” one of the people associated with the film said, per PTI.
For the unversed, there was a ban on Indian film releases in Pakistan and vice versa after a spate of terror incidents that also led to controversy around Fawad's casting in Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma starrer Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The actor's flourishing career in India suffered a setback due to the tensions between the countries.
Despite the ban, Fawad and Mahira continue to enjoy popularity in India and the film is expected to create a buzz.
