FIR against 'Scam 1992' by Pune bank; makers gets temporary relief from Bombay High Court

The Pune based bank alleged that the makers of 'Scam 1992' used their logo without permission for commercial gain and that it caused them financial damage.

Sony Pictures Network India has moved Bombay High Court in connection with a First Information Report (FIR) registered against company. production house, which owns SonyLiv app, sought that FIR, which h been filed on a complaint by Kar Urban Co-Operative Bank, be dismissed and requested an interim stay on probe into FIR over use of bank's logo that 'damaged' its reputation. court has directed police to not take any coercive action against makers till Monday.

Scam 1992 makers move Bombay High Court over FIR

Sony Live Channels, Applause Entertainment and two YouTube channels h been booked by Pune Police under section 500 of Indian Penal Code, Tremark Act and IT Act. In ir complaint in July, Kar Urban Co-Operative Bank h alleged that makers used ir logo without permission for commercial gain. y claimed that appearance of bank's logo, hinting at ir involvement with Harsh Mehta's scam in 1992,  h caused financial and social hardships for m.

As per reports, in an urgent mentioning of its plea on Friday, Sony Pictures told High Court that y were only streaming show which has been owned and produce by Applause Entertainment, which was an aptation of book   Scam: Who won, Who lost, Who got away. Calling FIR 'baseless and absurd', it stated that a disclaimer against all liabilities towards streaming of show was displayed at start of every episode of series. It ded that FIR was filed for "ulterior motives", and that it was to coerce makers into an undeserved settlement.

In petition, makers also clarified that name Bank of Karaj used in series was a pseudonym for Bank of Kar and that ir alleged role in scam was confirmed by Reserve Bank of India.  y stated that re was no intention of makers to malign reputation of bank

Justices Sambhaji Shinde and Nijamoodin Jamar urged police to not take any coercive action till next date of hearing, which is on Monday.
