In a step towards combatting climate crisis, an organisation in Karnataka has built state's first house me of recycled plastic waste for a waste collector in Mangaluru. As per ANI report, Chief Impact Officer at Plastic for change India Foundation, Shifrah Jacobs has also informed that at least “1,500 kilograms of plastic” has been used up to build grey-coloured house. Amid surging issue of climate crisis and extensive production of waste across globe, eco-friendly houses such as one in Mangaluru is a groundbreaking step towards rectifying dam done to environment.
As per several media reports, house located at Pacchany costs way less than that of regular houses and is priced at Rs 4.5 lakhs. Credited to save both money and environment, internet users are also lauding initiative as “amazing project”. media reports have also mentioned that at least 60 panels were built out of recycled plastic waste in construction of house with weight of each panel being 25 kilograms.

“This house costed around Rs 4.5 lakhs. This is a pilot project and a proof of concept for us. We hope to create more applications of this concept. In 2021, we hope to create 20 homes for waste pickers,” said Shifrah Jacobs as quoted by ANI.

US and UK are world’s top sources of plastic waste
As concerns around plastic pollution have been growing especially in recent months, new research revealed that US and UK are world’s third-largest plastic waste producer globally that toger contribute largely to marine plastic pollution. Americans rank as high as third in world to generate total plastic waste dumped in oceans as opposed to Asian nations, unlike researchers have argued previously. Ocean Conservancy in its new findings said, “ United States is a top contributor to coastal plastic pollution" and it shipped abro more than half of plastic collected for recycling in US. It ded that this was mostly to developing countries struggling to man plastic waste.
