Netflix announced series departure in February 2020

She furr ded that while she is s that series will be concluding soon, she is grateful to have h opportunity to tell this story. She also remarked that ir fans have been amazing and colourful supporters of this programme. She thanked viewers for being so receptive to Sam's and Gardner family's voices and promised that even after series finishes, y will continue to produce great stories from underrepresented perspectives, Robia told TVLine.
Netflix gave showrunners enough time to wrap up story
When it comes to reasons for terminating its original television shows, Netflix is notoriously tight-lipped. y gave Atypical showrunners enough time to wrap out ir characters' tales in manner y intended. Because shows are frequently cancelled without warning, showrunners rarely have enough time to finish show on ir own terms. While creators of Atypical may not have intended to terminate show after season 4, having equate notice from Netflix allowed m to just ir plans and give ir characters a proper send-off.

Atypical is story of Sam (Keir Gilchrist), a teen with autism's, desire to find a girlfriend and his challenges with dating on spectrum, which is focus point of first season. Sam learns to deal with or life milestones, such as high school gruation, in following seasons.
