Dwayne Johnson starrer Black Adam and James Cameron’s Avatar 2 are reportedly set to clash at the box-office. Dwayne Johnson recently revealed the first look of his DC Comics anti-hero film Black Adam. The film marks the first collaboration between the DC Universe and the former WWE wrestler. Black Adam vs Avatar 2 at the box-office?
Dwayne Johnson recently released the first look of his role as Black Adam in the DC Comics film Black Adam. While giving a glimpse of his role as Black Adam he also revealed the release date of the film. Black Adam is set to release on December 22, 2021. 21st Century Fox also confirmed the release date of the sequel of Avatar in May. Avatar 2 is set to release on December 17, 2021. Point being, Black Adam will be releasing five days after the release of Avatar 2.
This box-office clash between Black Adam and Avatar 2 might affect the business of both films. DC Comics films have been performing well at the box-office. Both Joker and Aquaman have crossed the $1 billion mark with its worldwide collections. Joker is currently the highest-grossing R-rated film at the box-office. Aquaman also collected $1.048 billion in its worldwide ticket sales. Recently Disney and DC clashed at the box-office with the release of Disney’s Mary Poppins and DC Comics’ Aquaman. DC’s Aquaman was a box-office success whereas Mary Poppins did not perform as predicted.
Avatar which was released back in 2009 was also a Christmas release and clashed with another big-budget film. Avatar was released alongside Robert Downey Jr. starrer Sherlock Holmes. Avatar dominated as the Christmas year-end release with $760 million US sales and $2.789 billion global ticket sales. Whereas Warner Bros. Sherlock Holmes collected $209 million in its US sales and $524 million in its global ticket sales. It will be interesting to see which of these films performs well at the box-office as the year-end release.
