Bong Joon-ho's comments on police nabbing Korean Zodiac Killer

Bong Joon-Ho's 2003 Korean crime drama Memories of Murder might be having an actual closure in store, but filmmaker is having "complicated" feelings and needs time to process it. critically-acclaimed film was inspired by South Korea's n-unsolved Hwaseong serial murders that occurred between 1986 and 1991. During that time, 10 women were found raped and murdered in Gyeonggi province. But w, after 30 years, South Korea police seems to have found killer, who was once dubbed as Korean Zodiac killer.

According to Los Angeles Times, Korean authorities recently anunced that a DNA match h been me linking evidence from some of crime scenes to a suspect who is alrey serving a life sentence in Busan for rape and murder of his sister-in-law in 1994.

Joon-ho, who is currently promoting his Palme-d'Or winner Parasite, opened up about film during a session at Beyond Fest. 

"It felt very complicated to hear that news. se serial killings, y were a horrendous incident that happened in Korea. In Korea, this incident was a big trauma to our society.

"When I me film, I was very curious, and I also thought a lot about this murderer. I wondered what he looks like," filmmaker said. Joon-ho n discussed extensive research process for film that included discussions with journalists, authorities, and ors. 

" only one who I could t meet was, of course, murderer," filmmaker said, ding, "Finally last week, I was able to see a photo of his face. And I think I need more time to really explain my emotions from that, but right w I'd just like to applaud police force for ir endless effort to find culprit."

"Memories of Murder" marked director's first collaboration with Song Kang-ho, who went on to feature in his 2006 movie " Host" and "Swpiercer" (2013).
