Star of the Marvel blockbuster Doctor Strange Benedict Cumberbatch is an unexpected supporter of Martin Scorsese's criticism of Marvel movies.
Weeks after Scorsese's comment about Marvel movies not serving the purpose of cinema, Cumberbatch, while speaking on a radio show, agreed with him and opined that there should be no monopoly of the superhero franchise movies in the world of cinema. The actor feels that artistic film makers and their production should be supported as well.

Don't let fantasy take over everything

Cumberbatch who portrays a Marvel hero himself, strongly feels that the cinema of ace film directors like Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola should be encouraged and not be overpowered by the fantastic world like the ones in MCU. The actor likened the MCU to a king as the youth of today are immensely fascinated with Marvel superheroes. Under the influence of the fantastic imaginary universe created by the directors of the Marvel movies, Scorsese feels and Benedict Cumberbatch agrees, that people have forgotten the essence of cinema and its artistic attributes.

Martin Scorsese strongly advocated that the superhero movies do not serve the purpose of cinema and are more like a theme park adventure. He also found them lacking on the "emotional and psychological experiences" which is ideally supposed to be reflected through cinema.
