'Fleabag' leaped over formidable competition early in Sunday's Emmy Awards with three awards, including the best comedy actress award and a writing trophy for series star and creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Waller-Bridge and her dark comedy about a dysfunctional woman, which also won a directing award, blocked 'Veep' star Julia Louis-Dreyfus from setting a record as the most-honored performer in Emmy history.
'Fleabag' wins big:
Taking the stage, Waller-Bridge said, "I am shaking. Oh my God, look at her. I am really shaking. I find writing really, really hard and really painful. But I would like to say, honestly from the bottom of my heart, that the reason I do it is this. So it's made it all really worth it guys, thank you so much," as reported.
"It's really wonderful to know a dirty, pervy, angry messed-up woman can make it to the Emmys," she added.
Fleabag got nominated for 11 awards at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards.
'Chernobyl'
On the other hand, HBO's 'Chernobyl' won a total of three awards, which include:
- Best Directing for a Limited Series to Johan Renck
- Craig Mazin was awarded the best writing for a limited series or movie for HBO's show 'Chernobyl'
- The Best Limited Series Award
'Game of Thrones'
Game of Thrones, on the other hand, won the Outstanding Drama Series award, with Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) bagging the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Emmy Awards 2019
The 71st Emmy Awards started its telecast in India at 5:30 AM. The previous month, it was reported that the Primetime Emmy Awards will take place without a host. Emmy awards are the much-awaited award event to honor the excellent work of people in the TV industry and will take place on Sunday. Last year, these Emmy awards were held without a host in 2003, which was also aired on Fox network. The reason the awards were being considered to be hostless is that they had too many names on the board.
