2016 sequel, titled "Independence Day: Resurgence", was a major failure for filmmaker who has delivered hits such as Godzilla and Day After Tomorrow.In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Emmerich mitted he should t have gone ahe with sequel.

"I just wanted to make a movie exactly like first. But n in middle of production Will (Smith) opted out because he wanted to do Suicide Squ. "I should have stopped making movie because we h a much better script, n I h to, really fast, cobble ar script toger. I should have just said because all of a sudden I was making something I criticised myself: a sequel," filmmaker said.

original featured Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith in le. film performed spectacularly upon its release, raking in over USD 817 million against its USD 75 million budget. However, sequel was a big disappointment.
