Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and DB Weiss have exited ir deal with Lucas film to develop a new Star Wars trilogy.

It was earlier confirmed that duo are actively working on new trilogy, which will follow upcoming Rise of Skywalker. first installment was expected to bow out in 2022. But ir new multi-year deal with streamer Netflix proved to be a hindrance, following which y decided to opt out of ir pact with Lucasfilm, reported Deline.

"We love 'Star Wars'. When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about 'Star Wars' with him and current Star Wars team was thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to saga that changed everything.

"But re are only so many hours in day, and we felt we could t do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away," Benioff and Weiss said in a statement. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said studio hopes to work with two writers one day.

"David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers. We hope to include m in journey forward when y are able to step away from ir busy schedule to focus on Star Wars," she said.

Benioff and Weiss were anunced as working on a new trilogy of beloved sci-fi franchise from Lucasfilm last year. y were identified by Kennedy as being a part of discussions over next dece's slate of "Star Wars" stories. However, Benioff and Weiss were t only ones working on a follow-up Star Wars trilogy.

Filmmaker Rian Johnson, who directed franchise's 2017 movie " Last Jedi", is also set to develop a follow-up trilogy that is expected to centre around new characters. Besides, studio has lined-up a number of spin-off projects Mandalorian, an Obi-Wan Kebi series and Rogue One prequel show that are set to bow out on its parent company Disney's upcoming streaming service Disney+.

It was reported last month that Lucasfilm's sister company, Marvel Studios' honcho Kevin Feige is also working on a potential Star Wars movie.
