Joaquin Phoenix bags Mike Mills’ new A24 drama after ‘Joker’

American actor-producer Joaquin Phoenix awaiting the release of his much-anticipated film 'Joker', has already bagged his next role in an untitled drama.

American actor-producer Joaquin Phoenix, who has been awaiting the release of his much-anticipated film Joker, has already bagged his next role in an untitled drama. Phoenix will feature in indie filmmaker writer-director Mike Mills’ next. The production of the film begins this fall which will reportedly land to A24. As the production commences this fall, it will be the first film Phoenix shoots after his tour-de-force performance in the Todd Phillips-directed Joker. The film will be produced by Chelsea Barnard, Lila Yacoub and Andrea Longacre-White.

Mills the indie filmmaker

Known for independent films like 20th Century Women and Beginners, Mike Mills was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the former. Mills directorial debut was Thumbsucker in 2005 for which he also created the posters. Born in Berkeley, California, Mills also directed several music videos including Moby, Yoko Ono and Air.

Awards and Accolades for Phoenix

Phoenix started his acting career with television series with siblings River and Summer Phoenix. Summercamp, released in 1986, was the first major film of Joaquin Phoenix as an actor. He has already received a grammy, a Golden Globe and three Academy Award nominations. For his latest, the film and performance received an eight-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival. The film received rave reviews and also bagged the Golden Lion Award at the festival.

Though the film is a part of the DC Comics universe, Batman or any other caped crusaders have not featured in it. Todd Phillips revealed that Phoenix would sometimes walkout from the set in the middle of a scene while shooting for ‘Joker’. He also said that they had several creative but fruitful differences over the character. "In the middle of the scene, he'll just walk away and walk out. And the poor other actor thinks it's them and it was never them, it was always him, and he just wasn't feeling it," he told an American newspaper.
