Joker Folie a Deux Early Reviews: Joaquin Phoenix is back as Arthur Fleck aka Joker to unleash chaos in Joker: Folie a Deux, all set to release in India on October 2. The Todd Phillips-helmed sequel will also introduce viewers to Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga. With the much-awaited Hollywood feature film holding its premieres worldwide, its reviews have started to come in. While the first installment divided the audience and still emerged as a commercial and critical success, expectations are huge from the sequel too.
Joker Folie a Deux leaves audiences divided
"Joker Folie A Deux is not what you expect. This interpretation of the character is all about risk, how many would follow up a billionaire dollar Oscar success with a musical? They just go all out, it’s the most ambitious, overwhelming (in a great way), intense CBM put to screen (sic)," wrote a social media user about the movie.
Speaking about how both the lead actors - Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga- deserve Oscar nomination for their performances, another one shared, "Joker 2 is a love story in its truest form. It resonates two harsh truths in the finest artistic way possible (sic)."
A watcher pointed out how Lady Gaga was the best Harley Quinn so far. However, the movie is not getting praised by everyone. S netizen shared, "I thought #JokerFolieADeux was quite bad. A bland musical, an uninspired story, a wasted Harley...oh I'm sorry, LEE Quinn, and a very mediocre plot. As someone who loved the first one, they clearly had no clue what to do with the sequel. Disappointed (sic)."
Another negative review of the film read, "They captured lightning in a bottle with the first film that this couldn’t live up to. It wasn’t a “bad” movie it’s just nothing close to the first, not by a long shot (sic)."
A new saga unfolds in Joker 2
Often teased as a psychological thriller with elements of a musical, the sequel presents a twisted tale of love between Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck aka Joker and Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga. Todd Phillips returns to direct. He has also co-written the script for the sequel, which will feature Zazie Beetz coming back as Sophie Dumond, a single mother and Fleck's former neighbour.
The newcomers include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener and Steve Coogan. Warner Bros will release Joker: Folie a Deux in Indian theatres on October 2 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages.
