DC's Joker recently crossed the $ 1 Billion mark at the worldwide Box Office and continues to keep earning more even after six weeks of its release. When the film was first announced, fans of DC and the character of Joker never expected it to be the sensation that it is today. The Joaquin Phoenix starrer also happens to be the highest-grossing R-Rated film of all time, even beating Ryan Reynolds Deadpool 2. Recently, Joker's worldwide Box Office earning even beat that of Nolan's highly acclaimed Batman film, The Dark Knight.

While Joker is based on a villain from the Batman franchise, the movie was never marketed as a spinoff of the massively popular superhero series. Instead, it was promoted as a dark and grim adult phycological thriller. But even with its disconnect to the main Batman franchise, Joker is now the second most profitable film associated with the superhero.
Before Todd Phillips' Joker beat Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, the highest-grossing Batman film of all time was The Dark Knight Rises, followed by The Dark Knight. Joker has now amassed a total of around $1.018 billion, beating the worldwide gross of The Dark Knight by around $13 million, which made $1.005 billion at the Box Office. This officially makes Joker the second highest-grossing film associated with the Batman name.

The Dark Knight Rises, on the other hand, made around $1.084 billion at the Box Office. If Joker is to beat The Dark Knight Rises, it would have to make around $66 million more. So, there is still a lot more Joker has to earn before it is the highest-grossing Batman franchise film of all time. However, this feat is not an impossibility, as the movie is still running in theatres in the United States as well as certain other countries around the world. While the release of Joker was controversial, with many critics finding the movie to be too dark, it continues to dominate the Box Office.
