Jonah Hauer-King roped in to play Prince Eric in Disney's 'The Little Mermaid'
Jonah Hauer-King will play Prince Eric in Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' opposite Halle Bailey who will play Ariel. The film will be directed by Rob Marshall.

Makers of Disney's The Little Mermaid have revealed on November 13 that British actor Jonah Hauer-King will play the character of Prince Eric in the upcoming Disney live-action remake of the animated classic. The role was earlier turned down by Harry Styles this year. As per reports, actor Harry Styles turned down the role because he disliked the music of the film. Casting of Eric remained long-vacant while the rest of the film's cast had already been revealed. Hauer-King became the latest entrant to play opposite Halle Bailey who will essay the role of Ariel, the titular character, according to an entertainment daily.
The film's cast, crew, and plot
Actress Melissa McCarthy will be seen as the witch Ursula, along with Javier Bardem as King Triton amongst the others in the cast. Likewise, Jacob Tremblay will be the voice behind Flounder, while Awkwafina will lend his voice to Scuttle with Daveed Diggs giving voice to Sebastian the crab. As per the film's plot, mermaid Ariel falls for Prince Eric after she saves him from drowning. To pursue her love, she makes a deal with the witch Ursula to turn her into a human in exchange for her voice. The film will be directed by Rob Marshall. Alan Menken is coming together with Lin-Manuel Miranda for the music of the movie, with Menken creating music and the latter writing and producing with Marshall, Marc Platt, and John DeLuca.
