Jordan Peele weighs in on the Marvel debate sparked by Martin Scorsese

Ever since Martin Scorsese made comments about the artistic value of Marvel films, a debate about the same has sparked in Hollywood. The debate has been on since over a month now with various Hollywood actors and directors sharing their thoughts on Marvel movies. Martin had stated that he looks at Marvel movies as equivalent to visiting a theme park. He believes that Marvel films are not the kind of cinema which conveys emotional and psychological experiences to other human beings. He deemed Marvel films as 'despicable' creative work. Recently, Jordan Peele while speaking at a public event in New York City expressed his views on the ongoing debate.

Jordan Peele's views on the Marvel debate

Jordan Peele stated that he isn't particularly engaged in the debate about what qualifies and what doesn't qualify to be called a film. He added that the definition of film and movie experience for him is where one can go and have a theatrical experience. Audience going through emotions, cheers, tears and laughter is the ideal movie experience for Jordan Peele. He wishes to make films which engage the audience at a theatrical level and makes them want to get out of their houses to visit a multiplex or a single screen so that they don't miss out on the entire experience. He stated that ultimately he wishes to see original content on the silver screen.

Bob Iger, the current Walt Disney Co. chairman and CEO shared his views on Martin Scorsese's comments. Disney is the parent company to Marvel movie studios. Bob stated that he reserves the word 'despicable' for someone who has committed grave crimes like mass murders. He doesn't get why people are criticising the films as they are evidently loved by millions of audience members across the globe.

Benedict Cumberbatch, who portrays the role of Doctor Strange in Marvel movies also weighed in his views about the ongoing debate. He believes that, as an actor, he is lucky to do both franchisal and indie films. He agrees that a monopoly in Hollywood is not an ideal scenario for films and doesn't want one king to rule it all. He also added that looking into supporting independent filmmakers is also an important task to help them at an entry-level.
