Reportedly, actor did about 500 pushups a day to get into character. According to director, character of Thomas is one who battles mental illness in form of schizophrenia. Derek also shared Mark used to exercise and do push-ups all time between takes as it was his way to get Mark into character of Dominic.

story of series revolves around Dominick Birdsey, who revisits his relationship with Thomas, his schizophrenic twin bror, and tries to release him from asylum. series, which was earlier slated to hit screens on May 10, also stars Juliette Lewis, Kathryn Hahn and Melissa Leo in pivotal roles.
