Met Gala 2022 theme has been announced
Met Gala is one of the biggest nights for the fashion and entertainment industry. The invite-only Gala contributes as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute. The theme for this year's Met is 'About Time: Fashion and Duration'. The theme for the Met was discussed in detail by the director of met Max Hollein. In his interview with a media portal, Max Hollein stated that this exhibition will consider the ephemeral nature of fashion, employing flashbacks and fast-forwards to reveal how it can be both linear and cyclical at the same time.

Apart from the director of Met, the curator of the museum Andrew Bolton also spoke about the exhibit. He in his interview with the media portal stated that the exhibit will offer a disruptive timeline. So the exhibit will not be displayed in the linear timeline setup. Instead, curator Bolton plans to offer something unexpected with the juxtaposition of the pieces. For example, a black silk velvet bustle ensemble from the mid-1880s will be paired with a Comme des Garcons ‘Body Meets Dress- Dress Meets Body’ dress from 1997. The fashion industry is also facing heavy criticism for producing heavy waste material due to the existence of fast fashion brands and also due to its carbon footprint. So the exhibit will conclude with a look at the future of fashion and sustainability will take centre stage as a topic of discussion.

The Met Gala 2019 was based on Susan Sontag’s poem 'Notes on Camp' and hence was termed as a 'ghost narrator' of the exhibit. This year none other than Virginia Woolf will be taking over Sontag with her novel Orlando that inspired Bolton. Andrew while speaking to the media portal stated that Orlando a movie based on Woolf’s novel of the same name inspired him for the theme. One of the most awaited details with the theme for Met Gala is of co-chairs. Oscar award-winning actor Meryl Streep will be attending her first Met Gala as a co-chair along with La La Land actor Emma Stone, Hamilton fame Lin-Manuel Miranda, Louis Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere and of course Anna Wintour. The Met Gala will take place on May 4, 2020.
