Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 was released on July 12. Stuck in development during the COVID-19 pandemic, it came out riding with the hopes of adding more to the multi-billion dollar franchise. However, the Tom Cruise starrer has crawled its way to $500 million at the global box office.

3 things you need to know:

  • Mission Impossible 7 is the latest film in Tom Cruise's MI franchise.
  • MI  features Tom Cruise performing daredevil stunts, including riding a bike off a cliff.
  • The action film saw fierce competition from Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig's Barbie

Mission 7 gets global recognition

As per a report from Box Office Mojo, Mission Impossible 7 now has a box office collection of $522 million. The Tom Cruise movie, despite all of its popularity and rave reviews, crossed this point after a month since its release.

Domestically, the actioner earned $159.4 million, while its global haul stands at $362.9 million. While $522 million is a box office benchmark, it should be considered that the film was made with a budget of $290 million. The box office momentum was thwarted by the blockbuster films Oppenheimer ($648 million) and Barbie ($1.187 billion).

It should be noted, however, that the fastest Mission: Impossible film to reach the $500 million mark faster is Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018). It reached the $500 million mark at the global box office in 24 days while MI7 did it in over a month.

Oppenheimer, MI7 perform well at India box office

The Mission Impossible franchise has been widely popular in India ever since the release of Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011). The film then featured The Night Manager star Anil Kapoor, and a portion of it was shot in Mumbai as well.

Following that, subsequent titles Rogue Nation (2015), Fallout (2018) and MI- Dead Reckoning (2023) have tasted box office success in India. While Mission Impossible 7 has made Rs 107.42 crore in India, Oppenheimer has almost touched the Rs 125 crore mark.
