New DC slate: James Gunn reveals new TV shows & movies; Superman reboot release date out

James Gunn took to Twitter in order to reveal the upcoming projects in the DC Universe, and how he plans on changing the current DCU timeline.

DC Studios co-head James Gunn has finally anunced DC slate for coming “8 to 10 years” that fans have erly anticipated since December 2022. Suicide Squad director posted a video on social media, where he detailed upcoming projects planned for DC Universe. James Gunn revealed a combination of live-action TV series, films and animated projects, which he added are all part of main continuity. 

Taking to Twitter, James Gunn said that first chapter of DCU reboot is called “Gods and Monsters”. He added that projects he’s anuncing are part of first chapter, but t all of projects within it.

Gunn started video by saying Shazam! Fury of Gods, upcoming March 17, 2023 film, will connect directly with Flash. Adding that Flash will reset whole DCU, Aquaman & Lost Kingdom will be subsequent entry connected to what’s coming next.

Creature Commandos - Animated series

It’s an animated series with a runtime of seven episodes written by James Gunn. Originally an assembly of heroes tasked with fighting Nazis, this series will add a modern lens to story. Gunn has stated that cast of voice actors will consist of those who can also play m in a live-action setting.

Waller - Live-action TV/HBO Max series

A spin-off to series Peacemaker, Waller will focus on character of Amanda Waller and her morally ambiguous methods within DCU. Viola Davis will return as titular character. Watchmen’s Christal Henry and Doom Patrol’s Jeremy Carver are collaborating on project. 

Superman: Legacy - Live-action film

Gunn’s own writing project, Gunn said that  “It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian herit with his human upbringing. He is embodiment of truth justice and American way. He is kind in a world that thinks that kindness is old-fashioned.” He furr added that film is set for a July 11, 2025 release.

Lanterns - Live-action TV/HBO Max series

live-action series will focus on Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart’s journey in Earth- sector. Gunn describes it as a “True Detective” kind of show, where duo discovers a mystery that ties in with larger story. 

Authority - Live-action film

Self-described by Gunn as a passion project, film will bring superheroes from DC’s sister-company Wildstorm’s character into main continuity.

Paradise Lost - Live-action TV/HBO Max series

HBO Max series will focus on Wonder Woman’s birthplace myscira. Gunn describes it as a series similar to likes of Game of Thrones

Brave and Bold - Live-action film

upcoming film will essentially pave way for Bat family into main continuity, as per DC Studios’ co-head. It will focus on Bruce Wayne and his son Damien Wayne.

Batman 2 - Live-action film

Robert Pattinson’s Batman is set to return as Dark Knight. However, projects such as Joker and Batman will be in “DC Elseworlds” category, existing outside of main continuity, he added. 

Booster Gold - Live-action TV/HBO Max series

Described by Gunn as “a loser from future who uses basic future techlogy,” series will focus on cult-classic DC hero. 

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow - Live-action film

Taking Tom King comic storyline and giving it a sci-fi twist, James Gunn said that project will focus on a jaded version of Supergirl. 

Swamp Thing

After cancellation of critically acclaimed DC series, film will serve as a horror story that introduces fans to Swamp Thing.
