Not random? Marvel President Kevin Feige teases why some superheroes died and others didn't in Avengers: Infinity War
The ending of Avengers: Infinity War left fans shocked, not just because of the specifics of what happened in the film's story, but also for the remarkable breakaway from the default notion that 'the good guys always win'.

For once, this was a film that h a villain with an angle. Thas wasn't just any or revenge-seeking Ronan or crazed neophyte Ultron or baselessly mischevious Loki -- he h a proactive plan for what he perceived to be a universal problem (which author Dan Brown h also focused on in his book Infer).
Whatever merits and demerits of Thas' solution may be, right from start he went about accomplishing it in a manner that h his opponents completely swamped. va Corps was decimated, Asgard's remnant was scattered, Vision was brushed aside, Kwhere was breached and altered before Guardians could arrive, Nebula h given him a clue as to location of soul stone and Doctor Strange also eventually relented. And refore, despite best efforts of Thor and his new Thas-killer, m Titan succeeded in wiping out half universe.

This, of course, means that a number of our favourite superheroes also died. And w, big question before Avengers 4 is which of se will be brought back to life.
Speaking t io9, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and man who is widely credited as being driving force behind dece-long blockbuster franchise, who has long been thought to be only one with entire grand design in his he, has given a hint as to what logic is for those who are still alive and those who aren't.
First, here's who is alive (and which upcoming n-Avengers film y to be involved in):

Iron Man
Thor

Nebula (Guardians of Galaxy 3 ?)
Rocket Raccoon (Guardians of Galaxy 3 ?)
And here's who's de:
Loki
Heimdall
Gamora (Guardians of Galaxy 3 ?)
Scarlet Witch
Vision
Spider-Man (Spider-Man: Far From Home)
Black Panr (Sequel ?)
Star-Lord (Guardians of Galaxy 3 ?)
Winter Soldier
Falcon
Doctor Strange (sequel ?)
Groot (Guardians of Galaxy 3 ?)
Mantis (Guardians of Galaxy 3 ?)
Drax (Guardians of Galaxy 3 ?)
Nick Fury (Captain Marvel)
nt Hill
And here's what Kevin Feige said:
"I think for a film series that is going on 10 years and is gearing towards a conclusion with Avengers 4, which you don't usually have in se kind of movies, you can sort of do math and realise that it's original Avengers that are left"
So, it's t by accident that only original guys are left (and Rocket and Nebula who are remnants of t-exactly-brand new Guardians of Galaxy!) And thus, after expanding series for ten years, in one shot, Marvel narrowed it down to precisely those people it h wanted for grand climax before core team disbands and ors take series forward.
Ant-Man and Wasp releases on July 13, Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019, and Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019.
