Oscar-Winning Director Steve McQueen Reveals Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

Director Steve McQueen revealed that he’s “fully recovered and functional” after privately he was battling prostate cancer.

Oscar-winning filmmaker and artist Sir Steve McQueen is known for some of his best works including Hunger, 12 Years A Slave, Depan, Lovers Rock and many ors. He won several accoles including Acemy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe for his film 12 Years a Slave, which is an aptation of Solomon Northup's 1853 slave narrative memoir. He recently revealed his cancer diagnosis, just weeks before beginning of production of his latest project.

Steve McQueen was diagnosed with cancer?

In an interview with Deline, filmmaker Steve McQueen shared that diagnosis came during a routine checkup while he was working on film. He was informed of a small tumours on his prostate but quickly took action to dress health issue.

He said, “I was just doing stuff in bed on computer-working, emailing and whatever. I kept it private at that stage”. At time, McQueen delayed shoot by just two weeks to undergo surgery which successfully removed cancerous tumour. Now, two years later, McQueen is fully recovered and fully functional as he continues his work in film industry. He furr said, I really just wanted to get on with job”, emphasizing his determined get on with it attitude.

For unversed, In 2014, Time magazine included McQueen in its annual Time 100 list of 'most influential people in world'. His upcoming project, a feature called Blitz, is set to go into production this year with New Regency.

McQueen, who became first Black filmmaker to win an Oscar for best picture with 12 Years a Slave, recently was honoured with one of most prestigious titles.  52-year-old director Steve McQueen has been knighted. He will now be known in U.K. as Sir Steve McQueen. Royal Family's official Twitter handle announced news.
