'Predator' screenwriters file a lawsuit against Disney to win back franchise rights

Predator screenwriters, namely Jim and John Thomas, have reportedly filed a lawsuit against Disney, eponymous production company that currently has rights to character and franchise, in order to recapture same. Thomas brors were responsible for screenplay of 1987 film, also starring Arld Schwarzenegger, which saw character of Predator making its big-screen debut.

As per an article on THR, 20th Century, unit of Disney that has possession of rights concerning fictional extraterrestrial being, has filed a lawsuit mselves in order to counter one registered by siblings. article in question claims that screenwriter duo intends on making use of copyright transfer termination laws, which affords choice of eir taking back rights to character or transferring it to someone else altoger, which supposedly gives screenwriters an edge over defendants of this case.
