Rachel McAdams reveals why she declined being a part of the Mean Girls reunion

Rachel McAdams recently appeared in the Kelly Fremon Craig helmed comedy drama, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. While the film has received rave reviews for its honest and authentic storytelling, McAdams has been in the news for other things. This particularly refers to her conspicuous absence from the Mean Girls reunion (in the form of a commercial for Walmart), something which she has recently addressed.

In an interview with Variety, McAdams finally opened up about why she was not part of the Mean Girls themed Walmart commercial which saw the entire core cast reprise their roles. While McAdams genuinely appeared excited about potentially reuniting with her 'plastics' for a film, a commercial simply did not appear all that exciting to her.

She said, "I don’t know, I guess I wasn’t that excited about doing a commercial if I’m being totally honest. A movie sounded awesome, but I’ve never done commercials, and it just didn’t feel like my bag. Also, I didn’t know that everyone was doing it. I would, of course, always love to be part of a Mean Girls reunion and hang with my plastics, but yeah, I found that out later."

Rachel McAdams weighs in on playing a relatable mother on screen

For the unversed, Rachel McAdams essays the role of Barbara Simon in film Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, mother to the titular role, Margaret Simon, essayed by Abbey Ryder Fortson. The film follows 11-year old Margaret as she maneuvers puberty while growing up in the 1970s. Addressing the character, McAdams reflected on striking a balance in how a mother on screen was portrayed.

She said, "We had a lot of conversations about making our film relatable and klutzy at times. I had Judy on one hand saying, ‘I think she should be sexy. Why can’t moms be super sexy?’ And on the other hand, Kelly asking me, ‘Do you think you’re a super sexy mom?’ And I was like, ‘No, do you feel like a super sexy mom?’ And she said, ‘No, but we are. We just don’t feel like it.’ It was finding the middle ground where we can be all these things, and there’s honesty in that."
