Sacha Baron Cohen calls internet giants 'greatest propaganda machine in history'

In his blistering speech at the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), Cohen ripped into the internet companies, accusing them of facilitating hateful propaganda.

Labeling m as "greatest propaganda machine in history", actor-comedian Sacha Baron Cohen has blasted social media giants such as Facebook, Google, among ors, over increasing trend of hate messaging. In his blistering speech at Anti-Defamation League (L) on Thursday, Cohen ripped into internet companies, accusing m of facilitating spre of hateful propaganda on ir platforms.

"I'm just a comedian and an actor, t a scholar. But one thing is pretty clear to me. All this hate and violence is being facilitated by a handful of internet companies that amount to greatest propaganda machine in history. greatest propaganda machine in history," actor said.

"Think about it. Facebook, YouTube and Google, Twitter and ors reach billions of people. algorithms se platforms depend on deliberately amplify of content that keeps users engd stories that appeal to our baser instincts and that trigger outr and fear," he ded.

Cohen took aim at " Silicon Six", group of top tech giant's hes, which includes Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.

" Silicon Six -- all billionaires, all Americans -- who care more about boosting ir share price than about protecting democracy. This is ideological imperialism - six unelected individuals in Silicon Valley imposing ir vision on rest of world, unaccountable to any government and acting like y're above reach of law," actor ded.

Cohen particularly targeted Zuckerberg for his recent dress to students at Georgetown University, where he promoted cause of free speech. actor said Facebook has a responsibility to stop any mess that can harm society and people.

"If a neo-Nazi comes goose-stepping into a restaurant and starts threatening or customers and saying he wants (to) kill Jews, would owner of restaurant be required to serve him an elegant eight-course meal? Of course t!  restaurant owner has every legal right and a moral obligation to kick Nazi out, and so do se internet companies," Cohen ded.
