School Daze is a cult classic Hollywood movie based on issues of colourism, hair-texture bias, classism and elitism within African American community, especially in universities. Although 1988-release is said to be a musical comedy, it is far from being so. Directed by Spike Lee, it has major scenes inspired by his own college experience in  Atlanta University Center as a Morehouse student. plot of School Daze revolves around clash between a fraternity and sorority just before Homecoming Weekend.

Vaughan Dunlap, popularly known as Dap is more into politics at Mission College, a historically all-black college. He les anti-aparid protests in college. He also gets into a squirmish during homecoming week with Julian Dean, who is also he of Gamma Phi frat. Dap's younger cousin bror, Darrel is newest pledge at Gamma Phi and he is ordered to bring a girl to frat house. But he and or pledges are unable to do it. 

Gamma Rays, a sorority counter-part of Gamma Phi and is heed by Julian's girlfriend called Jane Toussaint. She is more light-skinned than her classmates with straightened hair unlike her or classmates, especially Rachel Meows who is Dap's girlfriend. This causes friction between m often based on hair-texture and politics. 

Dap and Rachel have a fallout as she wants to rush in a sorority. During homecoming pare, Dap also gets into a fistfight with Gamma Phi. Later he is threatened to be expelled by authorities if he does not curb his activism. However, Dap still gets embroiled in anor fight with Julian as he confronts latter about Darrel's pledge task. During Greek step-up show, Dap makes anor ruckus with Gamma Phi boys. Dap later again tries to reconcile with Rachel.

Just before homecoming dance, Darell and or pledges are me to go through some of toughest tasks for ir initiation process. y are noneless accepted as members of Gamma Phi. At homecoming dance, Gammas have ir own celebration. Julian, however, forces his girlfriend Jane to get physically intimate with Darell. But later he rejects her and leaves. When Darrel comes and tells this to Dap, he gets very angry. 

next morning, Dap wakes up whole campus after questionable incidents from homecoming dance. Julian comes to confront Dap tearfully. Dap looks directly at viewers, however, breaking fourth wall to say "Please Wake Up". He hints at wrongs that have been happening at campus of Mission College and almost all colleges around country. He also hints at issues of classism, colourism and elitism and asks viewers to wake up and fight against m.
