American rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was arrested in Manhattan on 17 September, following months of sexual assault accusations and a grand jury indictment. Despite repeated attempts by his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, to secure bail, it has been denied twice. Combs faces charges of sex trafficking and assault, with his legal team planning to appeal the latest bail refusal.
Sean 'Diddy' Combs' attorney plans to file 3rd appeal for bail
Sean 'Diddy' Combs' lawyer plans to appeal his imprisonment, as revealed in court documents obtained by People magazine on Monday, September 30. His attorney, Alexandra Shapiro, filed a notice the same day, indicating their intention to challenge the decision after Combs was denied bail twice.
A source close to Combs told the publication that the official appeal will be submitted soon. The music mogul was arrested at a Manhattan hotel on 16 September at 8:25 p.m. The following day, a 14-page indictment was made public, outlining the charges against him.
He is accused of allegedly organising several "freak offs," described by prosecutors as "elaborate and staged sexual performances." He is also accused of drugging and sexually assaulting his victims.
On 18 September, Combs was denied bail again and remains held at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center.
Judge Robyn F. Tarnofsky, who refused his bail on 17 September, expressed concerns about his alleged "substance abuse and apparent anger issues." She questioned his ability to avoid harming others.
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is no longer on suicide watch
According to PEOPLE, Combs is no longer on suicide watch. "He is focused, strong, and concentrating on his defence while preparing for his trial," his lawyer told PEOPLE. Combs' next court appearance is set for early October.
The indictment alleges that the Bad Boy Records founder established a criminal enterprise involved in activities such as sex trafficking, forced labour, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice. The I'll Be Missing You rapper has pleaded not guilty to these charges.
