President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, explained in an interview with a leing music and entertainment publication why famous Star Wars franchise does t have a fixed director to le series. Kennedy said that after Lucas was out of picture, or directors found it difficult to pick up franchise. He says that each Star Wars film is like a hard nut to crack. What happened after George Lucas? 

initial four films out of original six were directed by George Lucas and only Empire Strikes Back and Return of Jedi were t directed by him. After George passed on responsibility to Kathleen Kennedy, getting perfect director onboard became very difficult for producers of film. Gareth Edwards mand to stay on track when veteran director Tony Gilroy came in late during production sts of film. Later,  Ron Howard replaced directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller for film, Solo. Recently, J.J. Abrams took Colin Trevorrow’s spot as le of Rise of Skywalker while David Benioff and D.B. Weiss also decided to step away from ir planned trilogy.
