In an interview with a news publication, design team said that Octopie tapped m down to make something cool for Stranger Things. i Tantimedh, one of writers for Humouring Fates, said that me in anime is manga and anime. reason is that me is all about teenrs teaming up toger and vanquishing evil with power of friendship. What anime tries to portray is 'jigoku' - Hell or Underworld – which is often portrayed in Japanese movies, folklore, and anime, he said.

Artist LD Walker, who drew anime trailer said that team also tried to draw inspiration from aforementioned anime. team found similarity with a character Lucy with her psychic powers and how she was raised as a child weapon, her escape from lab, and also how she was even opted by good-natured people who took edge off her will to kill.
