The Crown Season 3: All you need to know about the new 'Queen' Olivia Colman

The third season of Netflix's The Crown will depict the life of the Queen between 1965 and 1978. The role of the mature Queen is being played by Olivia Colman.

The third season of The Crown began streaming on Netflix on November 17, 2019. The highly acclaimed show follows the life and rule of Queen Elizabeth II, the current constitutional monarch of the UK. The first season began with the depiction of the Queen's early reign up to 1955 and the show is planned to go on for six seasons until it reaches the present day. The first two seasons of the show had actor Claire Foy play the role of young Queen Elizabeth II. However, the third season required a more mature actor to play the role of an older Queen and so Olivia Colman is now the new Queen in The Crown

Olivia Colman has not only worked in Hollywood but has also worked in several TV shows and has also been a theatre performer as well. Olivia first made her debut as an actor in the 2000 TV show Bruiser, which was a comedy sketch show where she played a multitude of characters depending on the script. The same year, she also played a role in the theatre performance of Long Day's Journey Into Night.

Olivia made her debut in the film industry in the 2004 Danish animated comedy film Terkel in Trouble, where she was the voice actor for Terkel's mother. She later made her live-action Hollywood debut in 2006, where she was featured in the romantic comedy Confetti. While Olivia has had several prominent roles in film, including a role in the highly popular film Murder on the Orient Express, her main medium of acting is television. She has featured in a multitude of highly acclaimed TV shows includes the British version of The Office, Doctor Who, and the 2018 remake of Watership Down. She has also won several awards for her career, including an Academy Award for best actress for her role in the movie The Favourite.

Due to the versatility in her roles on television, she was cast as the elderly Queen for The Crown season three. In an interview, when Olivia was asked about how she felt playing the role of the Queen, she said that she has always been a fan of the Queen and that is was difficult to play someone that the whole world recognises. She added that the more research she did on Queen Elizabeth II's life, the more respect she gained for her.
