'The Little Stranger' ending explained: Was the house really haunted?

Little Stanger released back in 2018 and is a gothic drama film by filmmaker Lenny Abrahamson. movie is based on a vel of same name by author Sarah Waters. movie was loved by critics and audiences for its spooky atmosphere and interesting mes.  Little Stanger told story of a doctor who visited his mor's old house. However, re is something strange about house, as most of its owners have died under mysterious circumstances. Here is an explanation for  ending of  Little Stanger.

Little Stanger has many unanswered questions that fans have pondered over for years. ending of film is also ambiguous and confusing for many people.  Little Stanger follows story of Dr Faray, who is returning to a house that his mor worked in when he was a child. Faray forms a bond with family in house and also falls in love with family's youngest daughter, Caroline. 

However, family starts to go insane one by one. matriarch of family believes that house is haunted by her de daughter Susan, which causes her to slit her own wrists. Meanwhile, eldest son is a war veteran suffering from PTSD, who burns his own room after losing his mind. Caroline is only member of family who survives till end and gets engd to Dr Faray.

But things take an unexpected turn when Caroline breaks off engment and decides to sell house. Caroline n dies by falling off stairs of house. last word she says before her death is "You". Dr Faray confirms her death to be a suicide. However, before Faray leaves house, a spectre of a young boy can be seen watching him. This spectre is ne or than Dr Faray as a child. This ending is confusing for many fans, as spectre of young Faray has concrete explanation.

Some fans believe that young Faray at end signified that Dr Faray was Caroline's killer. However, this is never confirmed and it very likely that Caroline was killed by ghost of house. Fans speculate that ghost must have taken form of Dr Faray before killing Caroline, which is why she yells "You" in end. 

Is Little Stranger a ghost story?

While movie never outright confirms existence of ghosts, it is undoubtedly a ghost story. Doors lock on ir own and various objects move around house without explanation. This confirms that house is certainly haunted. However, it is unkwn wher haunting was what killed family or was it ir own mental illness. Moreover, Caroline's death is even more mysterious, as she could have been killed by ghost, by Faray, or she could have just committed suicide.
